WITHHHT Floam?

Floam was a foamy modelling product unleashed to the world in 1994 by Nickelodeon and Mattel. Nickelodeon (also the children's TV network) previously brought us Gak and Green Slime.

You will probably remember this stuff. It was made up of "micro-beads", those same things that starting popping up in facial cleansers and body washes and have been screwing up the oceans ever since. Floam appeared in poppy bright colours like electric green and yolk yellow. And it waged a holy war with carpets from day one. This stuff stained EVERYTHING: hands, clothes, walls. And it also stunk. It had this cloying, chemically odor which could put a real damper on the molding experience.

Mmm! Red Floam!

I remember the fantastic ads from the early 90s. They were eminently singable. I remember a friend regaling me with the Floam theme song during a sleepover when we were 8. We both ended up in a puddle of my pee, such were the hysterics that ensured.

Here's the original Floam commercial from the 1990s:

So, WITHHT Floam?

You're in luck! Floam is still on the shelves! It has gone through various re-releases under various parent companies. As of 2012, it's back under the auspices of Nickelodeon. Amazon sells it. Barnes and Noble sells it. You can even buy a 12-pack of Floam from Toys R Us in 12 "Floamazing colours"! Just make sure to lay down a tarp all over EVERYTHING before unleashing Floam in your home.
